Hunting for Great Engineering Colleges in PA

Current junior here. Engineering's been sort of my thing for a while now. After looking at a couple of states, Pennsylvania seems like an interesting option. Can somebody recommend some colleges in PA known for their engineering programs? Any leads would be appreciated.

Sure, Pennsylvania is an excellent choice for engineering programs. Here are a few schools in the state that are well-known for their engineering departments.

The first one people usually think of is the Pennsylvania State University, often called Penn State. Their College of Engineering offers programs in several branches, including civil, electrical, mechanical, and aerospace engineering, among others. The wide variety of programs makes it a versatile choice, and it's recognized nationally for its research capabilities.

The University of Pittsburgh also has a strong engineering program, with departments in Chemical and Petroleum, Civil and Environmental, and Electrical and Computer Engineering. One unique feature of Pitt's program is their "Co-op Education" program, where students can gain real-world, paid experience while still enrolled as students.

Then we have Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, renowned for its College of Engineering. It's a top-tier school that emphasizes innovation, interdisciplinary study, and collaboration. Their programs our quite exhaustive, ranging from Mechanical Engineering to Biomedical Engineering to Environmental Engineering. Note that it's super competitive, so a solid portfolio is necessary during applications.

Finally, Lehigh University in Bethlehem also has great engineering programs. Their P.C. Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Science tackles a wide array of engineering branches, and the school strongly believes in cross-disciplinary learning.

Remember to keep in mind what field of engineering you're most interested in, the size of the school, the school culture, and location. Also consider potential financial aid opportunities and how well the school can support internship or co-op experiences, as these can be valuable for engineering students. Starting by studying the schools' respective websites for their programs, research opportunities, and faculty is a good step. Good luck exploring these choices!
