Debating on Major: Economics at Binghamton, MSU, or UConn?

Hey everyone! I'm considering majoring in Economics and currently debating between Binghamton, Michigan State University (MSU), and University of Connecticut (UConn). Are there significant differences between these programs? Can any current students share their experiences, especially related to faculty, coursework, internship opportunities, etc? Thanks in advance!

From an admissions counselor's perspective, here's some information on these three schools that could help your decision-making process.

Binghamton is a part of the State University of New York (SUNY) system and has a strong reputation for its business and economics programs. They offer both a BA and a BS in Economics. The school boasts small class sizes and strong relationships between students and faculty. Additionally, Binghamton's location in New York provides a good number of internship opportunities, especially in nearby cities like Albany and New York City.

Michigan State University (MSU) has a well-established economics program within its College of Social Science. They have a strong faculty with a breadth of specializations, and also offer a possibility for students to pursue a combined B.A/M.A. in Economics. MSU is a large research university and has ample resources for undergraduate economics students. It also has plenty of opportunities for internships, especially in nearby Detroit which is a large economic hub.

Finally, the University of Connecticut (UConn) offers both a BA and a BS in Economics through its College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. UConn's location in the New England region could provide internship opportunities in some of the powerful economic centers there such as Boston and New York. There would also be opportunities in Hartford, which is not only Connecticut's capital but also home to many corporations.

While not substituting personal experiences from students at these schools, I'd recommend reaching out directly to the Economics department of each university to get more detailed information about faculty expertise, curriculum, and specific internship opportunities. You could also connect with student organizations related to economics to get a student's perspective.

I hope this information aids in your decision-making process!
