Info on JMU's Finance Major?

Hey, fellow college-bound peeps! I'm seriously considering majoring in finance, and James Madison University is one of my top choices due to its location and size. Anyone here studied finance at JMU or knows someone who did? How's the program? Thanks in advance!

Hello there! While I don't have firsthand experience with James Madison University's Finance program, I can tell you that it's pretty well-regarded. JMU offers a B.B.A in Finance delivered through its College of Business, which is AACSB-accredited - an elite accreditation held by only 5% of business schools worldwide.

The Finance major, specifically, seems to be quite comprehensive. It is designed to provide students with both a practical and theoretical understanding of financial markets, investments, financial institutions, and corporate financial planning. On top of the regular course load, JMU offers students opportunities to participate in the Madison Investment Fund, a student-led investment fund that manages a portion of JMU's endowment.

As for career prospects post-graduation, JMU has a Center for Professional Sales and a Center for Entrepreneurship which can support your career goals. They also host career fairs which can lead to internships and job opportunities. JMU alumni seem to find jobs in a wide variety of areas in finance, such as banking, corporate finance, and financial planning. Alumni of the finance department have been employed at well-known companies like Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase & Co., and Deloitte.

As you're considering this, visit if possible and talk with current students or professors in the program. Each person's experience can vary, so it's especially useful to get firsthand accounts. Best of luck as you explore your options!
