Info on Rutgers' Human Resource Management major?

Hey, so I'm thinking about applying to Rutgers for Human Resources Management. Can anyone tell me about their experiences in the program? What the workload's like, quality of the curriculum and professors, etc?

Certainly! Rutgers' Human Resource Management (HRM) major is offered by the School of Management and Labor Relations and it's highly regarded nationally. The coursework in this major is structured to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively manage human resources in a organization, by emphasizing both critical thinking and practical application of knowledge.

In terms of coursework, you should expect a balanced workload. The curriculum is comprehensive covering topics such as labor relations, benefits and compensation strategies, organizational behavior, HR strategy, and workforce diversity.

Many students note the richness of the curriculum and appreciate how it offers a mix of theory as well as engaging real-world application via case-studies and group projects. Frequent guest speakers and other networking events are also common, providing plenty of opportunities for students to connect with HR professionals in various industries.

As for the faculty, they're often hailed as knowledgeable and approachable with a genuine interest in the success of their students. Many professors are accomplished researchers and/or have extensive industry experience, adding depth to their lectures.

Beyond the classroom, Rutgers offers students a Student Chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) which provides additional opportunities for professional development, networking, and hands-on experience in human resources.

One important thing to keep in mind is that like any other program, your experience will largely depend on your own efforts and engagement in the coursework, your interactions with faculty, and your involvement in related extra-curricular activities. Remember, it's not just about studying but also about applying what you learn, so don't be afraid to actively seek internships and relevant work experience in the field. Good luck with your college search!
