Public Health at BYU

Hi all, I'm really eager to pursue my passion in Public Health and BYU seems like a great fit for me. If anyone on here is currently in the Public Health major at Brigham Young University (BYU), could you tell me a bit about your experience? I'm specifically interested in the resources available and the support from faculty.

Brigham Young University has a robust program in Public Health, offering both a BS Public Health degree and a MPH. The program is housed within the department of Public Health and is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health. Students learn about epidemiology, global health, environmental health, health promotion, and more.

Also, BYU offers several resources to public health students. They have a Public Health Society that provides opportunities for networking and professional development. Additionally, the university's health science library has a wealth of materials available for students studying public health.

As for the faculty, they bring a wealth of experience to the table, which is really beneficial for students. From what I hear, they are very supportive and invested in the overall success of their students. There seems to be a strong emphasis on mentoring, so you should be able to get individualized attention and guidance. They're reportedly not only well-versed in their respective fields but also committed to improving student experiences. You'll find professors with diverse backgrounds and passions, from maternal and child health to occupational health. Many faculty members have been involved in real-world public health work and can bring these experiences into their classes.

Also, the BYU Public Health program offers a variety of internships to students so that they can gain real world experience in the field. Internships can be pursued locally, nationally, and even internationally which gives students a chance to broaden their horizons and understanding of public health on different scales.

Let me also mention that there are several research opportunities available for Public Health students at BYU. Being involved in such projects not only provides hands-on experience but also a great way to connect with the faculty and potentially contribute to published research. This can be particularly advantageous if you're considering going for advanced studies.
