Where exactly is University of Maryland located?

Hello everyone. Trying to get a better feel for where I might end up and I can't seem to find a detailed enough map online. Does anyone know specifically where University of Maryland's main campus is situated? Like, is it in a city, suburbs, or rural place? How close is it to major attractions or facilities in Maryland? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The University of Maryland, College Park (often just referred to as University of Maryland) is located in College Park, Maryland. This is a relatively suburban area that borders more urban regions—it's a nice balance between quiet, residential neighborhoods and bustling city activity.

In terms of proximity to attractions and facilities, you're in luck—it's quite close to both Baltimore and Washington D.C. In fact, the campus is approximately 10 miles from downtown Washington D.C., which you can reach via the College Park-University of Maryland Metro Station. This grants students access to numerous cultural, historical, and social destinations, such as Smithsonian museums, Capitol Hill, national monuments, and a vast array of restaurants and shops.

As for Baltimore, it's about 30 miles northeast and can be reached in about an hour's drive. Baltimore is home to the Inner Harbor, National Aquarium, and historic neighborhoods like Fell's Point.

On a more local level, the immediate surroundings of the university offer a variety of amenities right in College Park. Within walking distance or a short drive from campus, you can find restaurants, stores, and recreational facilities. The university itself also has a lot to offer, including the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center and the University of Maryland Observatory, among others.

So, while UMD's immediate surroundings might feel suburban, you're never far from urban city life and an array of attractions. However, keep in mind that regardless of proximity, the actual journey durations can vary due to traffic and the mode of transportation you choose.
