How is the math major at Cornell?

Hi guys! Just started my junior year and have been seriously considering applying to Cornell for a math major. Does anyone attending Cornell or anyone knowledgeable about their program can share their experiences? I'm curious about the rigor, undergraduate research opportunities, faculty involvement, etc.

The Mathematics program at Cornell is well-regarded and highly challenging, focusing on both theoretical and applied math. As a student you'll get exposure to various aspects of mathematical thought and will have the opportunity to delve deep into more specialized areas through a variety of electives.

While the coursework is rigorous, you can rest assured that the faculty is involved and committed to their students' success. You'll have the opportunity to work closely with the faculty, who are not just proficient in their fields but are also actively contributing to ongoing research and advancements in the field. This close interaction allows for engagement and mentorship beyond the classroom.

For undergraduates interested in research, the university offers several research opportunities. Among them are the Cornell University Mathematical Sciences Summer Undergraduate Research Program (aka the SPUR Program) and opportunities to work on individual or small group projects under the supervision of a faculty member.
