Best California schools for Mechanical Engineering?

I'm a junior and trying to map out my college journey. I'm pretty set on studying Mechanical Engineering and would like to stay in California for college. What schools in the state have great programs for this field? Any input would be great!

Sure, happy to provide some insights on this.

One of the premier institutions in California for Mechanical Engineering is Stanford University. Known for its rigorous curriculum, innovative research, and world-class faculty, many consider it one of the best engineering programs in the nation. Similarly, the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) provides a highly selective and rigorous program with strong theoretical foundation and hands-on experiences.

Another great option is the University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley). Its College of Engineering is home to a highly-ranked Mechanical Engineering program that combines coursework with research opportunities. Berkeley's college town vibes and dynamic campus life could also be an added advantage.

The other UCs, like UCLA, UC San Diego, and UC Santa Barbara also boast strong engineering programs. UC San Diego, for instance, has the Jacobs School of Engineering which is well-regarded for its Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department.

On the other hand, if you're interested in the intersection of theory and industry-relevant training, you might want to consider California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly). Cal Poly’s “learn by doing” approach would give you a lot of practical, hands-on experience. This experience can be very valuable when you are looking for jobs or internships.

However, remember to look beyond just academic rankings. Consider factors like size of the school, location, campus culture, cost, and financial aid while making your decision. College is not just about your studies, it's about finding a place where you'll grow as a person and enjoy your time. So, try to visit these campuses, reach out to current students and alumni, and get a feel for what it'd be like to spend four years there.

Good luck with your college journey!
