Thinking About NYC: Mechanical Engineering Schools?

I've always dreamt of going to school in the Big Apple, and I'm planning on pursuing Mechanical Engineering. Anyone have recommendations on good ME schools in New York City? Insights regarding academics, campus-life, or internships would be much appreciated.

New York City is a fantastic place for pursuing a Mechanical Engineering degree, given the city's reputation as a hub for technology, design, and innovation. It provides ample opportunities for internships and hands-on learning experiences.

Two institutions to consider would be Columbia University in the City of New York and New York University (NYU).

Columbia University's Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science is renowned for its Mechanical Engineering program. Here, academics are rigorous and research-intensive. It's an Ivy League university, so expect a very challenging curriculum, but the intellectual growth and prestige can be worth it. Some students find the workload to be intense, but collaborative. Remember that Columbia isn't just focused on engineering – they have a well-rounded core curriculum that provides a liberal arts perspective.

NYU's Tandon School of Engineering, on the other hand, also offers a solid program in Mechanical Engineering. NYU has strong connections with industry professionals in the city, facilitating many exciting opportunities for internships and networking events. Campus life is vibrant and active, with a range of clubs and organizations to get involved in. While not possessing the Ivy League label, NYU is widely respected, particularly in engineering and applied sciences.

In terms of campus life, both are located in NYC but offer very different experiences. Columbia has a more traditional campus in Morningside Heights, offering a bit of a respite from the city's hustle and bustle. NYU, located around Washington Square Park, is much more embedded in the city, practically having NYC as its campus.

Both schools would offer rich opportunities for internships, particularly because of their strong industry ties and Manhattan location. You'll be in close proximity to a host of companies ranging from established corporations to innovative startups.
