Considering a Psychology Major at TCU

Hey, I'm really interested in majoring in Psychology and I've been searching for colleges. I've seen TCU come up a fair bit and I wanted to know what your experiences have been like if you took or are currently in the psychology program at TCU. How would y'all rate your experience?

As a psychology major at Texas Christian University (TCU), you'll have access to rich academics, small class sizes, and plenty of opportunities for hands-on experience. TCU's program is recognized for its commitment to teaching rather than assigning courses to graduate students. This means you'll be taught by experienced faculty who are passionate about their fields.

Class sizes tend to be small, fostering an interactive learning environment. This close-knit learning environment often allows students to build strong relationships with their professors, which can be helpful for securing references for graduate school or jobs. The coursework is known to be comprehensive and challenging, covering cognitive, developmental, social, abnormal, and other branches of psychology. This provides a well-rounded foundation in the field.

Besides, TCU has a dedicated Center for Undergraduate Research and Scholarship which promotes student involvement in research projects. These opportunities can be invaluable for students considering graduate school, as they offer a chance to apply in practice what you've learned in class.

TCU also offers a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Psychology in addition to the Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree. The BS program has more emphasis on the scientific and technical aspects of Psychology, including additional course requirements in laboratory science and statistics.

The university offers various psychology-related clubs, like Psi Chi (the international honor society in psychology) and a specific Psychology Club, which allow students to extend their engagement with the field beyond the classroom.

Remember that every individual's college experience is unique. While TCU's psychology program has a lot to offer, it's important to consider other factors as well such as location, cost, campus culture, and whether it overall matches your personal and academic goals.
