Political Science Major at UCSD?

Hey guys, I'm leaning towards Political Science as my major and UCSD is one of my top choices. Can anyone share their experiences with the Poli Sci program there? What's the faculty like, and is there an opportunity for internships or co-ops?

UCSD certainly has a reputable Political Science program with faculty recognized for their expertise in a variety of fields within Political Science. The faculty is known for being especially supportive and accessible to their students. It's not uncommon for professors to go above and beyond in assisting students with their academic challenges and career preparation, which would give you a significant advantage in gaining a deep understanding of the subject matter.

As for internships, UCSD has a promising range of opportunities. There's the UC Washington Program (UCDC) and UC Sacramento Program (UCCS) where students can spend a quarter interning in either Washington D.C. or Sacramento while earning credit. This can be a great way to gain first-hand experience in government and policy work. Additionally, the university's location in San Diego, being close to the U.S.-Mexico border, provides students with unique opportunities for study and research in international politics.

Moreover, the department also hosts numerous seminars and events which often feature distinguished speakers from various fields. These events not only contribute to the community's intellectual life but also provide opportunities for networking.

You can definitely find plenty of campus political organizations to get involved with too! They vary from activist groups to debate clubs. Such extracurriculars would allow you to put your studies into practice outside the classroom and showcase affection for your major.

Remember also to take advantage of resources such as the Career Services Center, as they often have job listings and resources to help guide you in your internship search.
