Difference between research program and regular college?

Hey guys, I've been searching for colleges lately and came across some that offer research programs. I'm pretty confused about what a research program in a university exactly is, and how it differs from a regular college experience. Can somebody help clarify this for me? Thanks in advance!

Hey! I'd be happy to help clarify the difference between a research program and a regular college experience. Research programs in universities are designed for students to work closely with faculty members, professors, or even graduate students on specific research projects. These programs often involve hands-on learning and can be a great opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge about a particular subject. Some research programs may even offer stipends or grants for participating students.

On the other hand, a regular college experience mainly involves attending classes and completing coursework. Students may still have the opportunity to partake in research projects if they choose, but it isn't necessarily a structured program built into their education.

In short, a research program is a more focused form of learning and potentially gaining research experience. It's a supplement to the regular college experience and may be an excellent opportunity if you have a particular interest in a field and want to dive deeper into it. Hope that helps!
