Student demographics at the University of Texas?

Hi peeps, I'm really considering University of Texas (not just Austin) for my further studies. However, I'm quite curious about the racial and geographical demographics of the student population. Could anyone provide some insight? Thank you!

The University of Texas system is quite diverse in terms of racial and geographical demographics. Please note that these percentages may vary slightly year-to-year.

For instance, let's take the University of Texas at Austin. The student body is quite rich in diversity with, as of fall 2023, 33% of students being white, 22% Asian, 25.2% Hispanic, and 4.5% Black. The rest of the student body comprises different racial and ethnic groups, including multiracial students and those who do not report their race.

In terms of geographical diversity, over 90% of the undergraduate students at UT Austin are from Texas. Of the remaining student population, a good number hail from different states in the U.S with a small proportion of international students.

For the University of Texas at Dallas, which has a high proportion of international students (22.11%), the racial demographics are somewhat different. In fall 2023, 32.62% of students were Asian, 20.44% were White, 13.62% were Hispanic, and 4.82% were Black.

Again, the geographical diversity is broad at UT Dallas with a considerable number of international students, especially in graduate programs. The undergraduate student body largely remains in-state, with a significant representation from other states.

I would recommend visiting each campus (virtual or in-person) that you are interested in to get a feel for the school’s environmental context and student body, as this will help you better understand the atmosphere and whether you might fit there.
