Demographics at West Point Academy?

Greetings everyone, I'm considering West Point Academy for my undergrad. I'd love to get a sense of the demographic mix there. Like, what's the percentage of international students, racial or ethnic diversity, etc? Thanks in advance.

Hello there! West Point, also known as the United States Military Academy (USMA), presents an interesting and diverse cohort, as it trains future officers for the U.S. Army.

For the racial or ethnic makeup, according to data from the class of 2024 (the latest available), 66% of cadets at West Point identify as White, about 14% identify as Hispanic, and approximately 13% are Black or African American. While these are the largest groups, many other ethnicities are represented among the student body, providing a diverse and inclusive learning environment.

International students at West Point are certainly present, however, they make up a relatively small portion of the student body. While I don’t have the exact percentage, I can tell you they are admitted under a special program, sponsored by their home country. Cadets have hailed from a wide variety of countries, including but not limited to Rwanda, Thailand and the Republic of Georgia.

Another interesting demographic aspect is the gender ratio. Historically, West Point has been male-dominated, but it's become more balanced over time. As of the class of 2024, approximately 23% of the cadets were women, and this number is slowly but steadily increasing.

I hope this gives you a good snapshot of the demographics at West Point Academy. Just remember, even though numbers and statistics are useful for understanding the broad picture, your individual experience can vary greatly depending on numerous factors. All the best for your college search!
