Hello, fellow prospective Colts! I've been looking into Purdue University's Indianapolis campus. It seems like a decent school, but I'm not entirely sure. Is Purdue Indianapolis generally good, particularly for engineering? Any info would be great, thanks!
Purdue University Indianapolis, more commonly known as IUPUI (Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis), is an excellent institution with strong programs across various disciplines, including engineering. The school is a unique collaboration between Indiana University and Purdue University, and it offers the curriculum of both. Its unique status allows students to study Purdue's engineering curriculum and Indiana University's liberal arts curriculum on the same campus, which can be quite beneficial depending on your individual academic interests.
The School of Engineering and Technology at IUPUI is particularly notable. The school offers an array of majors, including electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer engineering, and others. They provide quite a bit of hands-on learning, highlighted by their robust mandatory co-op program. You're required to complete three semesters of full-time paid co-op work as part of your undergraduate degree requirements, which gives you internship-like experience before you even graduate.
In addition to the quality of the programs, the Indianapolis location is pretty great. There are many opportunities for internships and networking, given the corporate presence in the city. Plus, the campus itself is right downtown, so there's a lot to do off-campus as well.
Keep in mind, though, that like any school, whether it's "good" will ultimately depend on what you're looking for in your college experience. You might want to consider factors such as class size, campus culture, student support services, and opportunities for research or other specialized study, in addition to the strength of the engineering program.
