Hey all, I'm considering Loyola University for my college option, but I'm not completely sure where it's located in Chicago. Can someone help me out with this? How does its location impact student life and experiences?
Loyola University is located on the north side of Chicago, with its main campus, Lake Shore Campus, found in Rogers Park, right along the coastline of Lake Michigan. The downtown campus, known as the Water Tower Campus for its proximity to the famous Chicago Water Tower, is situated amidst the bustling hub of the Magnificent Mile.
Being located in a major city comes with both advantages and downsides. On the positive side, you'll be surrounded by diversity, culture, and countless professional opportunities. There are many internships and jobs available in close vicinity for students across different fields of study. Plus, a vast range of cultural activities, events, and venues are easily accessible for students right in the heart of the city - museums, theaters, restaurants, parks, and shopping centers, to name a few. And of course, being on the lake provides opportunities for water-based activities and breath-taking views.
On the other hand, city life may not be for everyone. Urban locations may be more crowded, noisy and may require careful navigation of public transportation. However, many students adapt to and come to enjoy the rhythm of city life. In terms of safety, like any large city, Chicago does have areas of higher crime, but campuses often have security measures in place to keep students safe.
In all, Loyola's locations allow students to experience both sides of Chicago— the charm of a neighborhood community at the Lake Shore Campus, and the fast-paced, business-oriented lifestyle downtown.
