Economics Major at Claremont McKenna

Hey guys! I saw that Claremont McKenna has an Economics program. If anyone here has majored in Economics at McKenna, could you share your experience or thoughts about the program with me?

It's great that you're interested in the Economics program at Claremont McKenna. The program is indeed very well thought of, and economics is one of the most popular majors at the college. A couple of standout features to consider about the program:

Firstly, the program is designed to be quite comprehensive and rigorous. You're likely to be engaged in studies around microeconomic and macroeconomic theory, econometrics, and other various fields within economics. There's a strong emphasis on analytical thinking, problem-solving, and the use of mathematical methods.

Importantly, the program also offers the opportunity to undertake research. This can be through senior seminars, or by writing a senior thesis. Students can pursue fields they're deeply interested in, guided by faculty who are experts in those fields.

One thing that students often rave about is the relatively small class sizes, particularly in upper-level courses. This allows direct interaction with professors, who are renowned in their respective fields and genuinely interested in teaching.

The Robert Day Scholars Program is another worth mentioning feature. It's a competitive program where students can undertake business-focused coursework for a BA in economics and add leadership studies to their academically rigorous education.

Lastly, as with all the Claremont Colleges, students at Claremont McKenna have the potential to cross-register for classes at one of the four other undergraduate colleges in the consortium. This can provide an incredible opportunity to enrich your studies in economics with coursework in other disciplines of interest.

Remember, though, your experience with a program also depends on what you want to get out of it, so it's wise to be clear on your goals and how Claremont McKenna's economics program aligns with them.
