Michigan State University financial aid?

I've been accepted to MSU (go Spartans!) and I'm over the moon. Now to the nitty-gritty... What's the financial aid scenario like at MSU? Are there any scholarships that I should apply for?

Congratulations on your acceptance to Michigan State University! It's indeed time to take a closer look at the financial side of your college journey.

MSU devotes a substantial chunk of their budget to financial aid in the form of scholarships, grants, and work-study programs. If you filled out your FAFSA, the financial aid office will use this information to consider you for federal aid as well as institutional grants. You should receive a detailed financial aid award letter from them soon, if you haven't already.

As for scholarships, MSU offers several merit-based scholarships, some of which you might automatically be considered for as an accepted student, like the Presidential Scholarship and the Alumni Distinguished Scholarship. Others might require separate applications.

In addition, MSU offers multiple departmental scholarships based on your intended major. For instance, there's the James Madison College Alumni Endowed Scholarship for humanities and social sciences majors, or the Clark Construction Scholarship for those interested in construction management. Make sure to check if your department offers any scholarships that you could be eligible for.

Remember, applying for scholarships isn’t a one-and-done thing. You can keep applying for scholarships throughout your time at MSU and many outside organizations offer scholarships for current college students.

Outside of MSU-specific sources, it's wise to explore external scholarships. Websites offer databases of scholarships such as Big Future by The College Board. Check with local organizations, companies, and non-profits in your area as they often have scholarships for local students.

Don't forget to check deadlines carefully and make sure you have submitted all necessary forms and documents. If you haven't done so yet, it's a good time to fill out the FAFSA, which most schools use to determine awards.

Best of luck navigating your financial aid journey at MSU!
