Chances of getting into Georgia Tech?

Hey everybody, I'm really interested in Georgia Tech, and I'm a bit stressed about my chances. I'm an in-state student with pretty decent grades and a ton of extracurriculars, but I wanted to know if anyone knew what the acceptance rate for Georgia Tech is, like is it super competitive, and what are the important factors the administration panel considers? Thanks!

Georgia Tech, also known as the Georgia Institute of Technology, is a well-regarded school particularly known for its engineering and computer science programs. Because of its strong reputation, it tends to be quite competitive. Its acceptance rate fluctuates year by year but typically averages around the 16% range.

First, it's great to hear you're an in-state student because Georgia Tech, like many public universities, has a higher acceptance rate for in-state applicants compared to out-of-state applicants. So, that's a plus for you already.

Grades are a crucial component certainly. Georgia Tech typically looks for a strong GPA, especially in challenging courses. They're interested in students who have performed well in rigorous coursework, such as Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) classes. If you've taken challenging courses and done well, that will weigh in your favor.

As per the SAT and ACT scores, Georgia Tech has quite high standards. The middle 50% range for admitted students tends to be around 1330-1510 for the SAT and 28-34 for the ACT. Keep in mind that these are just averages, and admissions are not solely based on these scores.

As you mentioned, you have a ton of extracurriculars—that's fantastic! Remember, quality matters more than quantity. They'll be interested in seeing deep involvement and leadership roles in a few meaningful extracurricular activities. If you’ve organized a major event, been a team captain, or had a significant role in a club, those are the kinds of things that can stand out.

Your essays will play a crucial role as well. Georgia Tech, like many colleges, wants to understand who you are beyond your grades and test scores. Your essays are an opportunity to showcase your personality, interests, and how you would contribute to the Georgia Tech community.

Remember, these are all general guidelines and trends. Every application is evaluated on an individual basis, and based on the school's needs and aims for each batch. Good luck with your application!
