What does SAT test stand for and what are its components?

I know SAT is a common standardized test for college applications, but what does SAT actually stand for? And can someone break down its different sections for me? I want to make sure I prepare well. Thanks!

SAT, originally called the Scholastic Aptitude Test, now stands for Scholastic Assessment Test. It is a standardized test developed by the College Board, designed to measure critical reading, mathematical, and writing skills that are needed for academic success in college. However, keep in mind that the SAT no longer explicitly divides these domains into separate sections:

1. Reading and Writing: This combined section consists of two 32-minute modules, where you will answer a total of 54 questions. You will get approximately 71 seconds per question. The reading section focuses on your capability to command evidence from the provided texts and understanding the meaning of words in context. For the writing part, you will need to show the ability to identify and rectify mistakes and other issues in sentence structure, usage, and punctuation in written content.

2. Math: This section includes two 35-minute modules, where you will answer a total of 44 questions. You get 96 seconds per question, or a little over a minute and a half. Unlike the old SAT, you can use a calculator for this entire section. It tests your algebraic skills, problem-solving and data analysis abilities, and some elements of trigonometry.

It's important to note that as of 2024, the SAT is fully digital, resulting in a more streamlined testing experience. You might also want to explore the Bluebook™ app to become familiar with the new digital format and to take a full-length practice test. Good luck with your preparations!
