So, I'm starting to seriously consider college, and the ACT is looming large. I keep hearing people talk about the cost, but nobody seems to have a concrete number. How much is it, exactly? Thanks in advance for any help!
Responding as a current college student, I can tell you that the cost of the ACT can depend on whether you are taking the test with or without the optional writing section.
As of the 2024-2025 application cycle, the ACT without Writing costs $68 and if you opt for the ACT with Writing, the cost is $93.
Please be aware that there may be additional fees depending on other factors. For instance, there's a $38 fee for late registration, and each test date change or test center change incurs a $44 fee as well.
If cost is a concern for you, please know that there are fee waivers available for eligible students which covers the cost of the ACT (no Writing) or ACT with Writing. To be eligible, you must be in 11th or 12th grade in the U.S., U.S. territories, or Puerto Rico, meet one or more indicators of economic need (such as being on free or reduced lunch), and be testing in the U.S., U.S. territories, or Puerto Rico. Note that fee waivers can only be used for a maximum of four college reports.
Lastly, be sure to plan your budget to cover any necessary test prep materials or courses. Good luck with the test preparation!
