Guys, I'm kind of freaking out here. I've taken my SAT twice now, and the second time around, my Math score dropped but my EBRW went up. Do all colleges do the superscoring thing, or am I just outta luck? Any advice would be much appreciated!
Not all colleges superscore the SAT, however, many do. Superscoring is when a college considers only the best section scores from separate test sittings. For example, let's say you sat for the SAT twice and got an Evidence-Based Reading and Writing (EBRW) score of 650 and a Math score of 700 on your first try. On your second attempt, you got an EBRW score of 720 and Math score of 650. Superscoring would combine the highest section scores from each test date, thus raising your total SAT score to 1420 (720 EBRW + 700 Math), even though you never actually scored that high on a single test.
To find out if a particular college superscores, you can check their admissions webpage or directly contact the school’s admissions office. You can also submit all your SAT scores to colleges and let them decide which to consider, as many colleges will take the highest scores into consideration even if they don't formally superscore. But remember, test scores are just one component of your college application. Your academic record, essays, letters of recommendation, and extracurricular involvement are also crucial parts of your profile. So, don't stress too much about one test score.
