Is SUNY Oneonta good for computer science?

Hey guys, I've been looking at SUNY Oneonta's computer science program. Anyone here have experience with it? What's the reputation, curriculum, job prospects after graduation? Just wondering if it might be a good fit for me. Thanks in advance!

SUNY Oneonta has a solid Computer Science program that provides a strong foundation in the fundamentals of the subject, including Computer Programming, Data Structures, Computer Organization, and Software Engineering. The program also incorporates some electives in topics such as Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence, and Interactive Computer Graphics, among others, so you'll have the chance to explore these specialized areas of interest.

However, as is true for most schools, the most valuable experiences will often come from outside of the classroom. You should take advantage of opportunities for internships, jobs, and research in the field, as these experiences can significantly boost your job prospects after graduation. Many of Oneonta's students have gone on to work in a variety of tech-related roles, ranging from software development to data analysis, in both small startups and larger companies.

In terms of reputation, SUNY Oneonta's Computer Science department may not be as highly ranked or well-known as those at some more prestigious universities, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's any less effective or valuable. Ultimately, your success will depend less on the name of your school and more on the skills you gain, the experiences you accumulate, and the connections you make.

To ascertain how good a fit SUNY Oneonta would be for you, I would recommend reaching out to current students or alumni from the CS program. They can provide insider perspectives that will help you understand the program's strengths and weaknesses from a student's point of view.

On a last note, do ensure that you take into account the financial aspects, convenience of location, size of college, faculty-to-student ratio and other factors that are important to you. All of these collectively would determine whether this college and its computer science program would be a good fit for you.
