What's up with Colgate University's Computer Science Program?

Hey guys, I've been looking around for colleges to apply to next year and I've recently stumbled upon Colgate University's Computer Science program. It's been tricky finding up-to-date info on their ranking. Does anyone have insights or experiences about it? How rigorous is the curriculum? Am I likely to get internships and job offers post-graduation? Open to any and all advice. Thanks 🙏

Colgate University's Computer Science program is pretty solid. It prepares students with the requisite skills and practical experience needed for both graduate study and employment in the computer science and information technology industries.

When it comes to the curriculum, it's comprehensive, making sure that you're well versed in areas like data structures, algorithms, computer architecture, and software engineering. You will also get the chance to take electives in areas like artificial intelligence, computer graphics, and web application development.

Also, at Colgate, you'd really get the full 'liberal arts' experience. This means that, while you'd be focusing on Computer Science, you'd also be taking a range of classes in different disciplines—which can help develop your critical thinking skills, writing ability, and understanding of other fields.

The program is also small enough to allow for considerable interaction with faculty and you will be learning in an intimate setting. Opportunities for research projects can be a significant part of your academic experience, and may be particularly beneficial if you're considering graduate school.

One thing you asked was about internships and job placement. Colgate has a strong Center for Career Services which helps students land internships and jobs. They have an alumni network that students can tap into for job and internship opportunities. Many CS majors have interned or worked at organizations like IBM, Northrop Grumman, Zillow, and Goldman Sachs. They also coordinate events like career fairs which often result in job and internship opportunities for students.

Do look into the specifics of their career placement records, though, to get a better sense of where their graduates are ending up, and reach out to alumni or current students to get some insider perspective if possible. But overall, you can expect a rigorous education and a supportive learning environment, which can potentially do wonders for your career prospects post-graduation. Best of luck with your decision-making process!
