Hey everybody, I'm a junior working through my college list. I'm interested in applying to MIT and I've been studying for my SATs - does anyone know what the average SAT score is for admitted students?
For MIT, the reported middle 50% range for SAT scores of admitted students is typically quite high. As of the most recent data available, this range is between 1520 to 1580 out of 1600. This statistic means that 25% of admitted students scored below 1520, another 25% of admitted students scored above 1580, and the remaining 50% fell within this range.
However, remember that standardized test scores are just one piece of the application. MIT will be looking at a variety of other factors as well, such as your academic record, extracurricular activities, essays, and letters of recommendation. It is certainly important to aim for a competitive SAT score, but also make sure to put effort into these other areas of your application. At a school as selective as MIT, no single credential will get you in on its own.
If you're looking for tips on how to strengthen your overall application to MIT, I'd check out this blog post from CollegeVine, which breaks down how to tackle their application essays: https://blog.collegevine.com/how-to-write-the-mit-application-essays/. The essays can be a great way of setting yourself apart even in an intensely competitive applicant pool like MIT's, by showing what you have to offer beyond the numbers.
Good luck!
