I'm really interested in neuroscience and considering a major at Rutgers. Just wanted to get some feedback about the program if anyone's familiar with it. How are their resources, courses, and professors?

Rutgers University's Neuroscience major is a rigorous program with a lot of potential benefits if you're interested in this field. It's part of the Division of Life Sciences, and it combines psychology, biology, and chemistry to give you an interdisciplinary understanding of nervous system function.

As a part of Rutgers, the program does provide access to some excellent resources. Rutgers itself is a large, research-intensive institution with many facilities, labs, and research opportunities. Being a neuroscience major could provide you with opportunities to get involved in research projects early in your college career, which is quite invaluable for furthering your understanding of the field and for your CV if you plan to go into research or apply for higher studies.

Coursework can be challenging but engaging. You'll find a mix of biology, chemistry, as well as specialized neuroscience courses. The major includes classes in cellular neurobiology, systems neuroscience, as well as a lab in neurobiology, where you'll get hands-on experience with various techniques used in neuroscience research. This balanced curriculum is designed to prepare students for a range of career pathways, including graduate school, medical school, and jobs in the pharmaceutical or biomedical industries.

Talking about professors, as with any institution, you'll find some professors you click with better than others. Rutgers boasts a faculty that is made up of scholars who are experts in their fields and have made substantial contributions to neuroscience. Student reviews often highlight many professors being very passionate about the subjects they teach, as well as being approachable. You may also find some professors whose teaching style may not align with your learning style, but office hours and additional resources such as study groups and tutoring can be very beneficial.

It's important to remember that everyone's experience can vary. One thing's for sure - Rutgers' neuroscience program is robust and will offer you many possibilities to explore and deepen your interest in this field. Make sure to take advantage of all resources, extracurricular opportunities, and research opportunities that come your way.
