Understanding SAT Results

Hey fellow students, this is my first time taking the SAT. After we get our results, can anyone give an idea of how to interpret them? Like, what are good scores, bad scores, etc? Thanks in advance for the explanation.

Hello and congratulations on completing your SAT! The SAT is scored on a scale of 400-1600, with 1600 being the highest possible score you can get. The score is divided into two sections, the Math section and the Reading and Writing (ERW) section, both of which are scored on a scale of 200-800.

A "good" SAT score is a relative concept and can vary a lot based on the colleges you're interested in. However, here's a general range:

1. Below Average: A score below 1050 is usually considered below average.

2. Average: A score around 1050-1100 falls into the average range, which means you scored better than about half of the students who took the SAT.

3. Above Average: Scores between 1200 and 1350 are above average and show you demonstrated a strong understanding of the material.

4. Excellent: Anything above 1350 is typically considered an excellent score, and if you score above 1450, you're in the top 10% of test-takers.

Also, it's good to remember that the SAT is just one element of your college application and many colleges use a holistic approach while reviewing applications. They'll also consider your grades, extracurricular activities, essays, and letters of recommendation, so don't worry if you haven't scored as per your expectations.

Good luck with your college applications!
