Examples of Brag Sheets? Need Inspiration

Hi team, I'm a junior and my counselor told me I need to make a brag sheet. Can anyone share examples of what they've included in theirs? I'm kind of lost on what to put and how to format it. Any help would be much appreciated!

A brag sheet is essentially a more detailed resume tailored for your high school counselor and your college recommendations. It provides a thorough and organized overview of your academic achievements, extracurricular activities, volunteering experiences, honors or awards you have received, and characteristics or skills that make you stand out. Here's a general format you can follow.

I. Personal Information:

Start with your basic details: Your name, your contact information, and the name of your counselor.

II. Academic Achievements:

List your academic achievements, including your GPA, ACT/SAT scores if you've taken them, and any honors or AP classes you've taken. If you've excelled in a specific subject area, be sure to highlight that here.

Example:

"3.8 unweighted GPA, included rigorous coursework like AP Chemistry, AP Calculus, and Honors English."

III. Extracurricular Activities:

Here, you'll list any clubs, sports, or other activities you've participated in during high school. Include your role, description of duties or accomplishments, and the number of hours you contributed weekly. Remember quality over quantity: It's better to show significant involvement and leadership in a few areas rather than minimal participation in many areas.

Example:

"Newspaper Club – Editor-in-chief (10hr/week). Led a team of 15 students in publishing monthly issues."

IV. Community Service:

List any volunteering or community service experiences. Like your extracurriculars, provide the role and tasks you performed, and the hours you contributed.

Example:

"Local Animal Shelter – Volunteer (5hr/week). Assisted in cleaning animal areas and interacting with visitors."

V. Work Experience:

If you've had a job, include information about your employer, your role, and your responsibilities.

Example:

"Part-time cashier at Local Supermarket (15hr/week). Handled customer transactions and provided service."

VI. Honors/Awards:

List any awards or honors you've received in high school. These might be related to academics, sports, clubs, community service, etc.

Example:

"Recipient of Junior Year Science Achievement Award."

VII. Personal Details/Characteristics:

This section is a chance to highlight some of your personal qualities or interests. You can include things like personal interests, worldviews, or characteristics.

Example:

"A natural leader with a talent for public speaking. Passionate about environmental conservation."

VIII. Future Goals:

You might also want to include a brief explanation of your plans for the future, like potential college majors, career goals, etc.

Example:

"Aspiring to pursue a major in Environmental Science and a career in conservation efforts."

Remember to tailor your brag sheet to reflect your unique strengths and experiences, and keep it updated as you progress through high school. Most importantly, be truthful and represent yourself accurately.
