Getting into Lehigh University, what are my odds?

Yo, folks! I've been dreaming of becoming a Mountain Hawk at Lehigh University. Does anyone know how competitive the admission process is? Any juicy tips to improve my chances? Thanks so much, any help or thoughts are appreciated.

Hello there! Lehigh University indeed has a fairly competitive admissions process, with a recent acceptance rate of roughly 49.5%. To give yourself a competitive edge, you'll want to consider the different aspects of your application, including your academic profile and extracurricular engagements.

Let's start with your academics. Lehigh looks for students who have challenged themselves in high school and done well in those challenging courses. Evidence of this could be taking a rigorous curriculum, like AP or IB classes. And while grades are important, remember that the rigor of the courses you take is also a substantial factor. If you have strong SAT or ACT scores they will certainly help, but keep in mind that Lehigh has a test-optional policy and not submitting these scores won't put you at a disadvantage.

Next, a key factor in your application is your extracurricular involvement. Admissions officers will be looking for deep and dedicated involvement, rather than a broad range of less committed activities. They won't just tick off boxes for the number of activities you're involved in; they’re more interested in depth and demonstrated leadership. Try to aim for Tier 1 or Tier 2 extracurriculars whenever possible. If you've been involved in a club or on a team for several years, consider trying to land a leadership role. It definitely stands out when admissions officers see an applicant has positively impacted their community.

Your essay can also make a difference. Try to write a compelling essay that's unique and personal. Showcase your interests, values, and experiences that have shaped your growth. While giving glimpses into your character, weave in how you would contribute to and take advantage of the opportunities at Lehigh.

Finally, consider how you can demonstrate interest in Lehigh. Although it isn't a major factor in decision-making, going out of your way to learn about the school and communicate your interest can tip the scales in your favor in a competitive applicant pool. This can be done by participating in information sessions, tours, or any university events. Granted, it doesn't necessarily boost your acceptance odds dramatically, but it shows that you made an effort to explore the school.

Hope this helps! Best of luck with your application process.
