Chances at Washington University in St. Louis

So, it's junior year and I'm looking at applying to WashU in St. Louis. Their admission rate is kinda worrying me though. Does anyone know what it's like and if they have any particular areas of focus for incoming students?

In terms of admission rates, Washington University in St. Louis (WashU) is indeed selective, with recent acceptance rates as low as around 11%.

The application process at WashU, as with many selective universities, generally looks beyond simple academic metrics like GPA and test scores (though these certainly matter). As well as academic transcripts and test scores, WashU values qualities like intellectual curiosity, commitment to community service, leadership capabilities, and active engagement outside the classroom.

While WashU offers excellent programs across various fields, it's particularly known for its programs in medicine, social work, and engineering. However, if you're applying for undergraduate studies, you'll be applying to one of four divisions: Arts & Sciences, McKelvey School of Engineering, Olin Business School, or Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts. Each division has a different focus, so you should consider where your interests and strengths lie.

Craft your application in a way that demonstrates your intellectual curiosity, participation in extracurricular activities, volunteer experience or engagement in community service. Highlighting a deep, long-term engagement with a particular interest or activity can help you stand out.

Finally, let's not forget about the admission essays. These are a wonderful way to showcase your personality, interests, experiences, and plans for the future. A well-constructed essay that exhibits your eagerness to learn, your understanding of WashU, or a compelling personal story can make a significant difference to your application.

Remember, no matter what school you are applying to, giving it your best shot and making sure the school is a good fit for you and your goals is the most important thing.
