MIT aspirant here! Can anyone tell me the average SAT score for MIT?

I'm really passionate about becoming an engineer and MIT is my top choice. In terms of test scores, I'm trying to figure out where I stand. Anyone aware of the typical SAT score for MIT admits? Any insights would be super helpful. Thanks in advance!

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) indeed sets the bar high when it comes to student profiles. The middle 50% SAT score range among the most recently admitted class was 1530 - 1580. This means that 25% of admitted students scored below 1530 and 25% of admitted students scored above 1580.

Also, consider that MIT looks for a strong performance in the Math section of the SAT, given its focus on STEM fields, so an 800 in Math would be particularly good.

While a high SAT score can strengthen your application, remember that MIT employs a holistic admissions approach. Other aspects such as your coursework rigor, GPA, letters of recommendation, extracurricular activities, essays, and interview (if invited) also play a significant role in the admissions decision. Demonstrating your passion for engineering in other areas of your application can be equally as important as achieving a high SAT score.

Remember these numbers can change slightly year by year, and these scores are meant to be guidelines rather than strict cutoffs. Having a score in this range doesn't guarantee admission, in the same vein having a score slightly below this range doesn't automatically disqualify you. The application process is about painting a complete picture of you - your academic achievements, personal character, and future potential - of which your SAT score is just one part. Good luck with your application process!
