What's financial aid like at Sam Houston State University (SHSU)?

I've been looking at Sam Houston State University for future studies but money's always a concern. Does anybody here know about the financial aid policy at SHSU? Any info would really help!

Sam Houston State University (SHSU) offers both need-based and merit-based aid to students. You would need to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to determine how much need-based aid you might qualify for. This includes grants, loans, and work-study opportunities. These are generally determined by your or your family's income level and other assets.

In terms of scholarships, SHSU offers the Bearkat Promise Program to incoming freshmen from the state of Texas. This is a need-based program that covers remaining tuition and mandatory fees after state, federal, and institutional aid have been deducted. The applicants must have a household adjusted gross income of $60,000 or less. If eligible, you could potentially attend SHSU for free under this program.

In addition, SHSU has an array of merit-based scholarships, which are awarded on the strength of your academic profile—your GPA, SAT/ACT scores (keep in mind these are not required to apply but can be submitted for scholarships), and high school course load. Remember that deadlines for these scholarships can be quite early, often in the fall of your senior year in high school.

Remember that, in addition to applying for financial aid via the FAFSA, some scholarships require separate applications. You should check SHSU's financial aid and scholarship websites regularly to stay up to date on the availability and requirements of these opportunities.
