What's the Admissions Process Like at Florida Gulf Coast?

I'm a junior and Florida Gulf Coast is definitely on my list of potential colleges. Can anyone speak to their admissions process? Is it super competitive, or more holistic? Any insight would be amazing.

Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) is generally not as competitive as some universities when it comes to admissions. The majority of the students who apply do get accepted. Having said that, it's crucial to meet their admission requirements, which focus more on academic eligibility.

First, FGCU uses a set minimum GPA and test scores for its admissions. For the fall semester intake of 2023, the minimum high school GPA on a 4.0 scale was 3.0 for Florida residents and 3.2 for out-of-state applicants, so you'll want to aim for at least this. In addition, FGCU would like to see a minimum SAT score of 900 (this is Math + Reading and Writing scores combined) or an ACT score of 19.

Furthermore, FGCU has a preference for students completing a solid college-preparatory program in high school. This would ideally feature four courses each in English and in Mathematics, three Natural sciences, Social sciences, and Foreign Language courses, and two courses that are either Arts or electives.

FGCU requires two letters of recommendation, so make sure you ask trustworthy teachers or counselors who know you well and can write about your positive qualities.

Lastly, the application process also includes submitting your high school transcript and paying an application fee.

So, while FGCU's admission process may not seem particularly holistic (as in, focusing on evaluating the whole student beyond just grades and test scores), it is aimed at ensuring that students are academically prepared for university. Remember, even with these criteria, it's always a good idea to exceed minimum requirements to stand out amongst other applicants. Good luck with your application!
