What does Georgia State University look for in an applicant?

Getting a tad stressed about applying to colleges. Georgia State Uni is high on my list but what do they exactly require other than GPA? Are there specific courses or leadership roles they focus on? Thanks in advance for the help.

Like most colleges, Georgia State University utilizes a holistic application review, which means they look at many different factors beyond just your GPA when making admission decisions.

In terms of academic requirements, Georgia State expects you to complete a range of college preparatory courses in high school, such as English, mathematics, science, social science, and foreign language. They want to see that you have challenged yourself academically. AP and IB classes can certainly show this.

Beyond the classroom, Georgia State does consider your extracurricular involvement. Although they don't specify that leadership roles are required, having them could strengthen your application by showing your ability to take the initiative, oversee projects, and influence others in a positive way. However, don't be too stressed if you don't have a leadership role. Many students build up their 'spike' or focused area of interest and depth through other avenues. For example, if you are interested in biology and aspire to be a scientist someday, research experience might be more impactful than a leadership role in a school club.

Additionally, keep in mind that Georgia State University does ask for an essay as part of their application. This is your opportunity to show them who you are beyond just the facts and figures of your application. Be sure to answer the prompt fully, provide insight into your character, and exhibit your writing abilities.

Remember, Georgia State looks at all these components together when they make a decision. An area of weakness in one domain can potentially be made up in another.

It's important to note that each applicant pool is different. What works for one applicant might not work for others. Try to present your best authentic self in your application and focus on what makes you unique as an individual.

Lastly, review the application thoroughly and check their website for the most up-to-date information on their admission process and requirements. Good luck!
