Guys, I'm stressing out about the SAT. Could you please tell me what parts the test consists of, and how much I need to focus on each?
Absolutely, I can provide some insight into the SAT's structure. Starting from spring 2024, the SAT moved to a fully digital format. Generally, the test is divided into two main sections: Reading and Writing, and Math.
1. Reading and Writing: This part consists of two 32-minute modules, with a total of 54 questions to be completed. You're given approximately 71 seconds per question to read the passage and answer the question based on it. It's crucial to work on efficient reading and comprehensive skills to perform well in this section.
2. Math: This is also divided into two 35-minute modules, where you will need to solve 44 questions. That gives you 96 seconds per question, or a little over a minute and a half. This section tests both basic and advanced algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and data analysis. It's recommended to be consistent with your math practice to do well in this section.
Remember, you’re allowed to use a calculator on both math modules. Unlike the older format of the SAT, the digital version doesn't have a no-calculator section.
As you prepare, try to take practice tests under test-like conditions to simulate the real-time pressure of the exam. The Bluebook™ app is a helpful resource as it allows you to preview the digital SAT and take full-length practice tests.
Do your best, and believe in your capabilities!
