What's a good sophomore PSAT score?

Hello pals, I got my PSAT score back and I'm not super sure how to feel about it. I'm in my sophomore year currently, what would you guys consider a 'good' PSAT score for someone in my grade? What's the average or what should I be aiming for?

The PSAT, much like the SAT, is scored out of 1600, with 800 points being the highest you can score in each of the two sections (Reading/Writing and Math). The national average PSAT score for all test takers, regardless of grade level, tends to hover somewhere around 920-930. However, remember that this includes both sophomores and juniors, so the average for sophomores is likely lower.

For a sophomore, a score of 1000-1100 is typically more than satisfactory. If you're scoring in this range, it shows that you're on track to perform well on the SAT during your junior or senior year.

If you're scoring above this range, say, in the 1300s or even the 1400s, that's fantastic, and it's well above average for your grade. This may put you on a competitive path for National Merit recognition when you take the PSAT/NMSQT in your junior year.

Remember, though, the most important thing is improvement and learning from the test — use your scores to identify areas where you can grow and improve. Review your PSAT score report and pay attention to any sections where you answered more questions incorrectly than others. That could highlight areas you should target in upcoming studying.
