What's the best strategy for managing time during the SAT?

Hi everyone! So I'm somewhat concerned about the length of the SAT. I've been practicing but still find myself rushing through sections. Does anyone have strategies for managing your time effectively during the test? Appreciate any advice, thank you!

You're right to prioritize time management during the SAT, as it is critical to achieving a high score. Here are a few strategies you can consider:

1. Understand the Test Structure: The digital SAT, active since spring 2024, consists of four modules; two for Reading and Writing, and two for Math. Each module is timed separately, so understanding how much time you have per question in each section can help you pace yourself. For Reading and Writing, you'll have roughly 71 seconds per question, and in Math, you have closer to 96 seconds per question.

2. Strategize: Plan your approach to each section. For example, you could first go through and answer all the questions you immediately know how to solve, then go back and spend more time on harder ones. Use your time wisely - don't get hung up on the questions that are extremely difficult.

3. Practice with Timed Tests: The College Board and the Bluebook™ app provide full-length, timed practice tests which are very similar to the actual SAT. The more practice you do with timed conditions, the better you'll get at pacing yourself on test day.

4. Keep an Eye on the Clock: Make sure to maintain a brisk pace, and if a question is taking more time than you expected, it might be better to guess and move on to maintain your rhythm for other questions. Try not to spend half your time on a question that only earns you one point.

5. During Your Prep: Work on sections separately and time yourself. Review your performance to see which sections/questions types are taking you longer to solve and then scrutinize why. This will enable you to target your weaknesses and see progress as you continue to practice.

Remember to stay calm! A calm and focused mind can approach problems more efficiently. It's okay to not get to every single question- it's far more beneficial to answer fewer questions correctly rather than rush and make mistakes on many.

Best of luck!
