SAT vs. ACT: Which One's Tougher?

Hey guys, so I need some advice. I'm debating between the ACT and the SAT, and I want to know from your personal experiences, is the SAT harder than the ACT? I've heard mixed reviews and I'm a little torn here. I'd appreciate any insight on this.

Hey! I can understand why you might feel a bit confused, the ACT/SAT decision can definitely be a bit overwhelming. Here's the scoop: one test isn't universally "harder" than the other. The difficulty really depends on individual strengths and weaknesses.

The SAT emphasizes critical thinking and problem-solving skills, whereas the ACT is more straightforward and content-focused. If you prefer reading and analyzing passages, consider the SAT. If you’re stronger in math and science, the ACT might suit you better. The ACT also has a science section, but it’s more about reading and interpreting graphs and data than applying scientific concepts. Likewise, the ACT math section covers slightly more advanced concepts than the SAT, and all questions on the ACT are multiple-choice, even in Math.

Remember, though, as of Spring 2024, the SAT is fully digital. The SAT, for instance, consists of two 32-minute modules for Reading and Writing, and two 35-minute modules for Math – making the test a total of 134 minutes long. In terms of timing, the SAT allows for slightly more time per question, but the ACT might feel "faster-paced" because there are more questions in less time.

So, try not to worry too much about which is "harder." Instead, consider your own skills, preferences, and the specific requirements or preferences of the colleges you're thinking about. Take a timed practice test for each (you can find them online or through resources like College Board's new Bluebook™ App for the digital SAT) - your performance might make the decision easier for you. Best of luck with your test prep!
