Understanding CLT Scores

Hello everyone. Super confused about the CLT scores. How are they calculated? What's a good score? And how do colleges view them? I'm a bit lost and could use some guidance. Thanks a bunch!

The Classical Learning Test (CLT) is a relatively new standardized test compared to the familiar SAT and ACT. It's aimed at students who have had a classical education especially in religious or independent schools, although it's open for use by any high school student.

The CLT exam is scored on each of the three sections: Verbal Reasoning, Grammar/Writing, and Quantitative Reasoning. Each section is scored individually in a range between 0-40, so your overall CLT score will fall between 0-120, derived from the total of the three sections.

As for what is considered a "good" score, it can vary depending on the colleges you're targeting. A score around the 75th percentile (around 90 or more) is a strong mark for competitive college applications. However, you should research the colleges on your list to know their average or median CLT scores, if they accept the CLT at all.

Now, regarding how colleges view CLT scores: a growing, but still limited, number of colleges accept the CLT for admissions since it is not as widely recognized as the SAT or the ACT yet. Each college might see the CLT in a different light, given it aligns more with a classical education and emphasizes critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, which might not necessarily align with the more common Core curriculum.

Remember that CLT is just one factor in your application, and it's important to balance this with other elements like your GPA, extracurricular activities, application essays, and letters of recommendation. Finally, always check with each college’s specific standardized test policy as these may differ from one school to another.
