University of Houston admission requirements

Hey mates, anyone know what's up with the University of Houston's admission requirements? What kind of GPA should I be aiming for and are there any required or recommended courses that I need under my belt? Thanks in advance.

To be a competitive applicant at the University of Houston, you should generally aim for a GPA of above a 3.50 on a 4.0 unweighted scale, although they look at GPA on a holistic basis and also consider the rigor of your classes. If your GPA is slightly lower, but you've taken challenging classes, that could still potentially be seen favorably.

In terms of course requirements, the University of Houston expects students to have completed the following:

- English: 4 credits

- Mathematics: 4 credits (Including Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry and a 4th higher level math course)

- Science: 4 credits (Including Biology, Chemistry, and Physics)

- Social Studies: 4 credits

- Foreign Language: 2 credits (Both credits must be in the same language)

- Fine Arts: 1 credit

- Physical Education: 1 credit

Note that these are minimum requirements and your chances of admission will likely increase if you exceed them. For example, taking more years of a foreign language or pursuing higher level math or science courses would show even greater college readiness.

And even though Texas public universities are moving towards becoming test-blind, it still wouldn't hurt to have strong SAT or ACT scores if the university allows you to submit them. Universities are looking for a well-rounded application, taking into account GPA, course load, standardized test scores (when applicable), extracurricular activities, essays, and letters of recommendation.

Hope this gives you a good starting point for the University of Houston. Remember to keep working hard, challenge yourself academically, and pursue your extracurriculars with passion!
