Help with U of O admissions

So it's time for me to start my college applications and U of O is on my list. I've heard their admissions process can be kind of tricky. Can anyone share their experience or any advice they've picked up along the way? Thanks in advance!

Sure, happy to help! I agree that the process for U of O — also known as the University of Oregon — might seem overwhelming at first, but keeping organized and completing each component thoughtfully will definitely help make the process smoother.

There are some key dates to note down. Firstly, their application opens on August 1. For Early Action applicants, the deadline will be November 1, and for Regular Decision applicants, it's January 15.

The application itself will ask for standard items — your high school transcript, your SAT or ACT scores (if you're a domestic student), and an application fee. As of the 2024-2025 admission cycle, the University of Oregon is test-optional. This means you have the option of submitting an SAT or ACT score, but it is not required. However, for certain scholarships and direct admissions to some majors, U of O still requires test scores. So keep that in mind if it applies to you.

Aside from those aspects, U of O also requires an essay. Their prompts focus on wanting to understand more about you, your personal experiences, and how you see your future. This essay is your chance to showcase your personality and values outside of your academic credentials. It's also important to proofread your essay well to make sure it's free of mistakes - mistakes could potentially give a careless impression to admissions officers, which you want to avoid.

Lastly, you'll also need to fill out the activities section. This gives you a chance to showcase your extracurricular activities and achievements outside of academics. As per the 4 Tiers of Extracurriculars in admissions, colleges like to see proof of leadership, commitment, and exceptional skills or achievements in this area.

Remember, it's not just about being a well-rounded student in terms of wide range of activities, but it's also great to have depth in a few particular areas – what some might call a "spike". This could be anything from a strong focus and achievement in music or sports to leading a significant community service project.

I hope this information helps you as you start the application process for U of O! Best of luck to you.
