SAT Scoring: What's Up?

Hey everyone! So, I've just started looking into colleges and the SAT gets thrown around a lot. I'm aware it's a big thing for college applications, but can anyone tell me what the SAT is even out of? Thanks in advance!

Hey there! Sure, I'd be glad to help you out.

The SAT, starting from spring 2024 when it went fully digital, is scored on a scale of 400 to 1600, divided between two main sections - Evidence-Based Reading and Writing (ERW) and Mathematics. Each section is equally weighted and is scored on a scale from 200 to 800. The two section scores are then added together to give you the total SAT score which is between 400 and 1600.

If you’re taking the SAT, note that there is no penalty for getting a question wrong, as it was removed a few years ago. This means that you should try to answer every question, even if you're not sure of the answer.

In order to prepare for the SAT, it would be wise to identify your weak areas and focus on strengthening them. You can do so by taking some practice tests to get a handle on where you stand and what you need to work on.

And although SAT scores are an important part of college applications, remember that colleges look at a variety of factors, including high school grades, extracurricular involvement, and essays. It's best to focus on doing well academically overall and engaging in activities that you're passionate about, not just acing the SAT.

Hope this clears up some of your uncertainties! Let me know if you have any other questions.
