What's University of Michigan's rating?

I've heard conflicting things about the University of Michigan's overall performance. Could anyone shed some light on their official rating? Like how do they stack up against other schools nationally?

The University of Michigan (UMich) is consistently ranked among the top public universities in the United States. According to the U.S. News & World Report 2024 rankings, UMich is rated as the 3rd best public university nationwide, only behind University of California--Los Angeles and University of California--Berkeley. Moreover, it stands at the 21st position among all national universities, which includes both public and private institutions.

In addition to its overall ranking, several of UMich's individual programs are highly regarded. For example, its undergraduate business program at the Ross School of Business is ranked 4th, and the undergraduate engineering program at the College of Engineering is ranked 5th.

These rankings take into account factors such as academic reputation, student retention, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources, graduation rate performance, and alumni giving.

Remember, while rankings provide a snapshot of the university's reputation, they should not be the only factor in your college decision process. You should also consider factors such as the programs offered, the school culture, location, costs, and other factors that are important to you. Regardless, University of Michigan is widely recognized as an academically rigorous institution with celebrated faculty, diverse student body, impressive research facilities and robust alumni network.
