Hello peeps! I'm starting my SAT prep and I'd ideally prefer to set a target score. Does anyone know the kind of SAT score Princeton usually expects? Please let me know.
Princeton is one of the most competitive universities in the world and typically expects very high SAT scores from applicants. As of the 2024-2025 application cycle, Princeton has reinstated its requirement for the SAT or ACT, so test scores are again a significant part of the application.
Data previous to the test-optional policy, showed that the middle 50% SAT score range for admitted students at Princeton was typically around 1510-1560. The middle 50% score range means that 25% scored below this range and 25% scored above. It's important to note, however, that scoring within or above this range does not guarantee admission because Princeton uses a holistic review process.
Also, students who score high on the SAT still need a strong GPA, challenging course load, excellent recommendation letters, compelling essays, and achievements in their extracurriculars to gain acceptance.
Remember, in the new SAT format as of 2024, the SAT is fully digital and split in two parts - Reading and Writing: two 32-minute modules with a total of 54 questions, and Math: two 35-minute modules with a total of 44 questions.
In short, aim as high as you can, ideally above the 75th percentile score (1570) for the best shot at admissions. However, also ensure the rest of your application is also as strong as possible. Good luck with your prep!
