What are the admission requirements for the University of Florida?

I've started looking into my college list, and I have my eyes set on the University of Florida. But what are the admission requirements? What grades and test scores do I need to aim for?

Admission to the University of Florida is quite competitive, so it's important to ensure your academics and extracurriculars are strong.

First, let's talk about academics. There's no absolute cutoff for GPA, but UF reports that the middle 50% of admitted students had a GPA of 4.4-4.6. Regarding test scores, for the 2024-2025 application cycle, University of Florida is test-optional; however, if you choose to submit scores, the middle 50% of admitted students had SAT scores ranging from 1280 to 1440, and ACT scores ranged from 29 to 33. Keep in mind these scores are for students who got accepted. You could get in with lower scores, or potentially get rejected with higher scores - these are just ranges, not guarantees.

For your course load in high school, UF wants to see that you've taken challenging classes and succeeded in them. The school recommends taking at least five solid academic courses per semester. This typically includes a mix of AP, IB, and honors courses. UF specifically requires 4 years of English, 4 years of math (at least up to Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2), 3 years of natural sciences, 3 years of social sciences, and 2 consecutive years of a single world language.

As for extracurriculars, UF considers the quantity, quality, and level of involvement in activities outside of the classroom. They're interested in how you've used your time and the impact you've made on your community. Keep in mind about the 4-tier extracurricular system while evaluating your activities. Quality is more important than quantity here.

Apart from this, the application requires a few essays. These provide an opportunity for you to bring out your unique personality, experiences, and motivations which wouldn't necessarily show up in the rest of the application data.
