SSU acceptance rate: What's the real story?

Hey y'all! I've been looking into Savannah State University, but I'm a bit confused about the acceptance rate. Some sources seem to have different numbers. If anyone can shed some light on this, it would be much appreciated. Also, is the acceptance rate reflective of the school's competitiveness?

Savannah State University, or SSU, as it's more commonly referred, has seen some variability in its acceptance rate over the years. It's best in these situations to look directly at the institution's official statistics or reputable resources such as CollegeVine or the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES). Keep in mind that fluctuations could be due to a range of factors, including changes in the number of applications the institution has received in a given year or changes in the school's admissions policies.

In regards to your second question, the acceptance rate can provide a general idea of a school’s selectivity, but it's not the whole picture when it comes to competitiveness. There are other important factors to consider as well. For example, the average GPAs, SAT or ACT scores of accepted students can also provide a sense of the academic achievement typical of incoming students.

Additionally, the rigor of the classes you've taken in high school, your extracurricular activities, and any leadership roles or accomplishments all come into play when your application is being assessed. Schools are interested in students who will actively contribute to their community, both in and outside of the classroom. For instance, if you have substantively engaged in a few activities (high "Tier 2" or "Tier 1") rather than lightly involved in many ("Tier 4"), that tends to be seen more favorably.

So, in a nutshell, acceptance rate can provide an initial snapshot of a school's competitiveness, but there are also other aspects you should consider in the admission process.
