What's typically the minimum SAT score for getting into colleges?

Hi peeps, I feel a bit stressed about the SAT. Like, what's considered a 'safe' score to apply to colleges with? I know it varies by school, but is there a general range that's seen as a 'minimum'? Thanks in advance for any advice given.

Hello, it's perfectly normal to feel a bit stressed about the SAT. The truth is, there isn't really a set 'minimum' score across all colleges, because each institution has its own standard. That being said, if we're broadly speaking, many colleges would expect an SAT score at least upwards of 1050, which is around the 50th percentile nationally.

However, remember that more competitive colleges will expect higher scores — for example, a score in the top 25% range, which is around 1200 or above. At very selective institutions, successful applicants often have scores in the 1500+ range.

To understand the 'safe' score for any college, you might want to review the middle 50% SAT score range that the college provides. It gives you a good idea of where your score should ideally fall. But be mindful that the SAT is just one component of your application. Many factors, like your GPA, extracurricular activities, essays, and letters of recommendation, play a crucial role in your application.

Finally, don't forget that a number of colleges have become test-optional due to recent changes in standardized testing, and many have decided to continue with this policy. This means that submitting your test scores is optional at these universities. Good luck with your college application process!
