What do PSAT scores actually mean?

Hey friends, I just received my PSAT scores. I'm wondering, what exactly do these scores signify? Do they have a considerable impact on my college applications?

The PSAT, or Preliminary SAT, is essentially a practice version of the SAT. The scores you received are valuable for a couple of reasons.

First, the PSAT offers an approximation of how you might perform on the SAT. While the conversion is not 1-to-1, it's quite close. For instance, an 1150 on the PSAT approximates to around 1180 on the SAT. Using this, you can identify your strengths and areas that need improvement, and then strategize your SAT studying accordingly.

Second, your PSAT scores are used to determine your eligibility for the National Merit Scholarship Program if you took it in your junior year.
