TCU Application Process

Hey, so I'm seriously considering applying to TCU and feel a bit swamped. Can any current students or recent applicants walk me through the application process? Any tips or things I should look out for?

Sure, I'm happy to help you understand the application process for TCU. Firstly, know that TCU accepts both the Common App and their own TCU Application. So, you have the option of choosing the one which suits you better.

Once you've chosen an application platform, you'll have to fill out the basic information including your academic profile, extracurriculars, and personal background.

You'll also need to get two letters of recommendation, one from a guidance counselor and the other from a teacher. These individuals should be able to speak to your character, your work ethic, and your potential.

TCU also requires a personal essay. Make sure it's focused, unique to you, and thoughtful. The admission officers will want to see your perspective, your goals, or how an experience shaped you. Be sure to review and revise your essay for proper grammar and spelling.

As of the 2024-2025 application cycle, TCU is not test-optional, meaning you'll need to submit either your SAT or ACT scores. Regardless of which test you take, make certain to allocate ample time for test preparation to ensure your scores are as high as possible.

One unique part of the TCU application is the freedom curriculum section. You'll be asked about how you've fulfilled their recommended high school course requirements. TCU prefers students who have pursued a rigorous high school curriculum, so be thorough when filling out this section.

TCU also has an optional section for you to provide additional information or details that you may want the admissions committee to consider when reviewing your application.

Lastly, be aware of the deadlines. For Early Decision and Early Action, it's November 1. For Regular Decision, it's February 1. Each comes with different notification dates and enrollment deposit due dates.

Applying to college may seem overwhelming, but break it down into smaller steps and you'll get through it. Good luck with your application to TCU!
