Need some SAT prep strategies

Hi everyone! I'm going to take the SAT soon but I'm feeling kinda overwhelmed with where to start studying. Do you guys have any tips or strategies that helped you prepare? I'm particularly concerned about time management during the test. Thanks in advance!

Sure, I totally understand how overwhelming SAT prep can seem at the start. The good news is, there are some clear steps you can follow to make this as manageable as possible.

First, familiarize yourself with the format of the test. As of spring 2024, the SAT is fully digital with a structure as follows:

- Reading and Writing: two 32-minute modules to complete 54 questions (about 71 seconds per question)

- Math: two 35-minute modules to complete 44 questions (about 96 seconds per question)

Reviewing the format will help you understand what you're up against and where you'll need to focus your efforts.

Next, I would suggest taking a practice test to know where you currently stand. This will help you identify your strengths and weaknesses and give you a baseline score from which you can set a reasonable goal. The College Board and the Bluebook™ app offer full-length practice tests.

For studying, consider dividing your material. Spend more time on the topics you find difficult, but don’t neglect your strong areas, as you wouldn’t want those to atrophy from lack of practice.

Focus on one section at a time. This approach will help keep you from getting overwhelmed and allows you to dive deeper into each area. For example, one week you could focus on Reading, and the next on Math.

Time management is a common area of concern as well. Practice using strategies like skipping hard questions and coming back to them if you have time. And remember to use your calculator effectively in the Math section, since now, unlike in the past, the new digital SAT allows calculators in both math modules.

Lastly, remember to review wrong answers carefully. It is important to understand why you got an answer incorrect, not just knowing that you did. Understanding your mistakes is key to avoid making them in the future. Good luck with your preparations!
